About Debt Collection
NRS 353C.195 requires agencies, boards and commissions assign debts to the State Controller (SCO) for collections 60 days past due. This statute allows the Nevada SCO to centralize debt collection services for all agencies. The SCO uses various methods to maximize the collections of the debts owed to the State. These include Debt Offset program and private Collection Agencies.
SCO is also implementing new tools to collect debts: a wage garnishment program, and provisions of NRS 353C.1965. These will help to collect debts that are owed to the State by persons who hold professional and occupational licenses.
